The Geometry Inside the Weave

A close-up reveals tightly interlaced cane strips forming a radial basket pattern.

This close view removes nearly all context and concentrates on construction. Pale cane strips bend, cross, and tighten into a radial pattern around a small rectangular center. Curving rows spread outward like ripples, while darker gaps mark the spaces between individual fibers. Subtle color changes—from honey gold to muted beige and light brown—show the natural variation across the surface. The pattern is orderly but not mechanically uniform: widths shift, edges soften, and individual strands rise slightly above their neighbors. At this scale, the basket becomes an abstract landscape of lines and pressure, revealing how repeated crossings can build both strength of form and visual rhythm.
